Finalists selected based on job growth, facility expansion, and investment

BOSTON– Reinhart FoodService, L.L.C. has been named among twenty-three finalists from across the state for the Team Massachusetts Economic Impact Awards, awarded annually by MassEcon (Massachusetts Alliance for Economic Development). The awards celebrate companies that have made an outstanding contribution to the Massachusetts economy.

“New England is outpacing the rest of the country in economic recovery,” said Bob Brustlin, Chairman of MassEcon. “The Impact Awards recognize the progress that Massachusetts is making by honoring businesses such as Reinhart that are contributing to this growth.” Finalists were chosen from Boston to the Berkshires – from a multitude of sectors. Greg Bialecki, Secretary of Housing and Economic Development, was the featured guest at the event.

Reinhart, the largest independently owned foodservice distributor in the U.S., was chosen because of the growth, both in new jobs added and in territory covered, in its Boston Division and Reinhart’s commitment to the state of Massachusetts. The Boston Division won a contract with 99 Restaurant to supply all 100 of the restaurant’s New England chain outlets with 100% of their food requirements. The impressive contract led to a 28,000 square foot expansion, completed in February 2010 at a cost $5M to Reinhart’s 88,000SF facility in New Bedford’s Business Park. Reinhart has since hired 45 permanent positions in the area and has the second largest job growth of all 45 companies within the New Bedford Business Park.

John Roussel, Chief Executive Officer of Reinhart FoodService, L.L.C. said, “At Reinhart, we aim for service excellence, continually raising our level of performance. It is an honor to be recognized for our contribution to the Massachusetts economy in terms of jobs and development projects.”

MassEcon selected the finalists based on job growth, facility expansion, and investment since January 1, 2010, as well as other criteria including community involvement. Finalists compete on a regional basis, defined as West, Central, Southeast, Northeast, and Greater Boston. Out of the finalists, a gold, silver, and bronze winner will be selected from each region. The winners from each region will be announced in October and recognized at an awards luncheon on November 22nd in Boston.

“As we climb out of the recession, it is important to recognize that there are businesses across the state that are expanding,” Susan Houston, Executive Director, MassEcon added. “Growth in the Commonwealth is not limited to one region or one industry; these finalists come from every region of the state and represent a diverse group of industries.”
